SPECIAL COURSE NOTE* This Day, is the first day of the PILB Armed Officers Training Course. Instructors are required to bring a pen and paper as you are being asked to audit the class and will provide feedback at the end of the course to the instructor. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Greetings, all Nevada PILB Certified Firearm Instructors! (CFI’s)
The time has come to replace the outdated Armed Security Training Curriculum with a modern real-world course that can be effectively implemented across operational and time-based demands. Without a clear understanding of the facts and realities facing today’s armed security professionals, training standards risk becoming overly complicated and outright ineffective. For this reason, I am hosting a Certified Firearms Instructor (CFI) Continuing Education course to bring instructors together to discuss and shape the future of Nevada’s Armed Security Training Program.
The cost of this course has been fully covered by the Nevada Association of Certified Firearms Instructors (NVACFI), making it free to all currently licensed CFIs. The priority is not cost, but collaboration—bringing instructors together to develop a curriculum grounded in education, training, and real-world experience, rather than opinions from individuals who are not firearms instructors or who lack regular instructional experience.
This meeting will play a critical role in shaping the future of Nevada’s Armed Security Training Program and will directly impact the implementation and training requirements of pending regulations involving AR-15 platforms and shotguns. These decisions must be made by CFIs—those who stand on the line and bear responsibility when triggers are pulled. It is imperative that we actively participate in the discussions that will define the future of our profession and our state.
To be clear, meetings held over the past 18 months have identified and confirmed deficiencies in the current curriculum, recognized outdated training standards and regulations requiring correction, and produced preliminary outlines for a completely revised training curriculum. These efforts have already received broad support from those involved. We now face a choice: to be part of the solution or part of the problem. A single voice may fade, but a unified group will not be ignored.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled course date, additional sessions will be offered in the coming weeks, and remote participation options will also be available. For questions or additional information, please contact the course instructor via email at Andrew@nvacfi.com.
Equipment required for this course.
Note-Taking Materials: Instructors are encouraged to bring any curriculums or training materials they believe may contribute to productive discussion with fellow instructors. While time is limited, the instructor is prepared to present the issues at hand and will thoroughly consider input from other Certified Firearms Instructors (CFIs) who wish to contribute to the development of a revised training curriculum.
